Those perfect steps

The duo's performance was a delight

THE BHARATANATYA duet by the dancer-couple Kiran Subramanya and Sandhya Kiran recently, reminded of their well-known gurus Dhananjayan and Shantha Dhananjayan of Chennai. Endowed with an attractive physique, they had fine anga shuddhi and hastha rekhavinyasa. Shivanamavali in praise of Lord Shiva was excellent. "Kripanidhi Dayanidhi" was notable for its dramatic presentation. Kiran carried out some of the charis and bhramaris prescribed for male dancers with precision and elan. The most familiar Vyasaraja composition "Krishna Nee Begane Baaro" was developed and used to great advantage in a unique manner by the Kirans. They were supported by an excellent musical ensemble led by Srivatsa and Manasi Prasad (vocal), Prasannakumar and Ramya Jagannathan (nattuvanga).
