Blend of body and soul
THE VENUE is scattered with tiny tots running about excitedly. They are repeatedly told to maintain silence and remain in one place. They prance about on their allotted seats till they are called onto the stage to rehearse their dance. Their master commands them to put their soul into their dance.
Being too young one wonders how much they can understand. But once the music rolls out the little ones dance with rhythm to get that perfect step and movement.
Studio For Dance is an institution that came about in April 14, 2003. Several children are part of the institution learning Jazz, hip hop, salsa, ballet and the like. And the man who spearheads this studio is Jeethandra who comes from a family of dancers. His brother Prassana was the one to start it in an academic way with Swingers and soon Jeethu, as he is fondly known, decided to strike out on his own.
Well versed in Bharatanatyam, ballet and other styles of modern dance Jeethu and Nisha, his partner, want to make a difference to dance ethos by making children learn the benefits of movements, flexibility and agility.
His students are from the age group of 3 to 20 years and above and everyone loves attending the classes at the studio. Students of the Studio are rehearsing at Vani Mahal for a two-hour show to be presented for the public on November 7. About 80 children will participate and over 30 adults will add verve to the function.
Apart from teaching various styles of dance and ballet techniques, the institution also lays emphasis on theory as part of their routine.
Meanwhile, Jeethu is hopeful of doing an album with children displaying what he has taught.
