Refreshing realism
``Tehzeeb" is completely void of clichés, stereotypes, caricatures and political agenda. That is what makes it novel. Identity is part of the conscience is the director's point. Kudos to Khalid Mohamed, says ZIYA US SALAM.

    Music

Contrast in approach comes to the fore

    A lively concert
WITH A surfeit of brigas, gamakas, stylised swaras and renditions full of manodharma, Sangeetha Swaminathan's concert for Sri Kapali Fine Arts did not have a dull moment throughout the two-hour session. The programme that included a scholastic ...

    Mellow and enchanting

    Some irritants
MUDHRA should be commended for organising their festival series in Nungambakkam which could cater to the population in that area and that too free of charge. On the opening day, however, one had to face two kinds of assaults. The first was on ...
    Modulation would have helped
ARUNA SAYEERAM sang to a full audience, who were spellbound by her rich and powerful voice. The briga-studded alapana of Kalyani was followed by a brisk rendition of "Madhava hrdi khelini," one of the Saptaratnas of Oothukkadu Venkata Kavi, ...

    Delectable Mohanam

    Clear rendition of ragas
GAYATRI VENKATRAGHAVAN; seems to have become slightly aggressive in her singing. After the Kamboji Atatala Varnam, she took up Dikshitar's Gowla Kriti `Sri Mahaganapathiravathumam' and also sang kalpanaswaras at the Saranam line `Prakasakrao'. In ...
    A sincere effort

    Pleasing raga structure
