"Looney Tunes: Back In Action"
THIS IS an inventive tribute to the classic Looney tunes combining live action and animation - and it very nicely captures the zany spirit and energy of much loved characters of bugs bunny and daffy duck. In fact it goes over most of the Warner Bros. earlier productions of cartoon characters and stories and devices a tale that is naturally effervescent and at the same time nostalgic about the old shorts.
Working on a Larry Doyle script, which tells audiences about a chase.
Daffy Duck is considered obsolete and not so funny anymore. And this he is told by the brothers Warner (deadpan twins Don and Dan Stanton) and their Vice President of Comedy, Kate Houghton, (Jenna Elfman). Dejected at first and mortified that Bugs Bunny is still in favour Daffy decides he will stick (literally) with DJ Drake (Brendan Fraser), a clumsy studio security guard, who is fired for some inept work. Now he is on his way to Las Vegas to rescue his erstwhile superstar dad and spy Damien Drake (Timothy Dalton spoofing his old James Bond persona). Drake, incidentally, is the captive of the evil ACME Corporation headed by the mad Mr. Chairman (Steve Martin). Drake knows about the blue monkey (a precious diamond) which has strange and mystical powers. Then begins the fun as the pair moves from one wacky situation to another with Kate following them with a wise cracking bugs bunny as (the studio has told her that unless she gets daffy back her job is `finished.') Eventually the four join up in an adventure that has a laugh at many Hollywood films - with several gags and throwaway lines by the numerous characters interspersed with the cartoon ones. Its fun, for the adults familiar as they are with characters like the Roadrunners Elmer while children may enjoy the frenetic animated action. Director Joe Dante includes many allusions to popular films like ``Psycho," ``Invasion Of The Body Snatchers," ``Fraser on Fraser" and the like. If you are in sync with such things well then what are you waiting for? Go see it...
