Padai Veettu Amman

A FILM that has devotional aspects normally does good business at the box-office. Televista Digitals "Padai Veettu Amman" has nothing much of a story. So the director must have taken extra care with the screenplay. It is all about goddess Padai Veettu Amman and her power.

The story starts with Samundi (Devayani) who is the pujari killed by the henchmen of `Nizhalgal' Ravi. In comes the new pujari who is Padai Veettu Amman (Meena) herself. How she takes revenge on Ravi and his men is told with lots of digital effect.

Good digital effects certainly make one sit through the entire film and "Padai Veettu Amman" has succeeded in it partially.

As far as acting is concerned hero Ramki has very little to do, as the film is a female oriented subject. But he has done his role well. Devayani, who is the pujari in the first half becomes a spirit later. On both occasions she is convincing.

`Nizhalgal' Ravi as the villain who wants the precious treasure of the Amman is ready to do anything to get it.

He is good in patches and at times does not know how to go about it. The director ought to have guided him properly.

Vinu Chakravarthi as the black magician proves that he is an experienced actor. K. R. Vathsala, `Payilvan' Ranganathan and baby Akshaya are the other artistes who have done justice to their roles.

Baby Philips' camera work is commendable and graphics by EFX is neat.

Music by S. A. Rajkumar enhances the quality of the film and particularly the song by director Ramanarayanan, "Adi Muthu Muthu Mari Intha Sithu Ennadi" (sung by Krishnaraj and Swarnalatha on two occasions) is melodious.

The other good songs are "Pathu Ooraiyum" written by Kalidhasan and sung by Chitra, "Vaadiamma Vaadi", by Krithiya and sung by S. A. Rajkumar and baby Vaisali.

But the music director must have taken much more care while making the child sing the song.

Story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by Pugazhmani.
