All about teenage love

THE FILM institute was full of new faces, all of them wearing make-up. As one went closer, one could hear the track of a song and some of the young members were dancing on instructions from the master. So what was happening? Enquiries revealed that shooting was on for Sharmadha Production's ``Gummalam.'' The director, Suki S. Murthy, said that he had taken up teenage love as the subject and given it a bold treatment. Whether the attraction a boy and a girl feel towards each other is love or just infatuation and whether it is indeed right for people as young as 16 and 17 to select their life partners are discussed in a gripping way, he said. It was actually a birthday celebration that was being filmed. Four friends, inseparable since childhood, split on account of a girl, a gift that one of them gives the damsel, causing tension. There are five songs in the film and each is shot at different locations, two of them being Rameswaram and Udhagamandalam.

The lead actors are all real students and have that boy-next-door look. They are Mithun Tejaswi, Ganesh, Selvam, and Zahir. Rathi is the heroine. The others in the cast are Ravikumar, Vasuvikram, Kaka Radhakrishnan, Ponnambalam and Vinitha.

Music is scored by K.Gandhidasan, camera is handled by R. A. Ramanan, editing is done by Raghu Bob, dances are choreographed by Ajai Raj, Ravi Dev and Shivshanker. Stunts are by Peter. Story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by Suki S. Murthy.
