Clay or wood the result is flawless...

A VIBRANT and colourful Craft Fair featuring North Eastern Craft skills is currently drawing large crowds at the Corporation Community Hall, No. 30, C. P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet. Organised by Purbashree and sponsored by the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the Fair showcases the varied crafts of the North East with special emphasis on cane and bamboo crafts. Santiniketan's beautiful etched leather bags in lovely colours, ikat fabrics and linen from Andhra Pradesh and brassware from Moradabad are also being showcased. Well-crafted and designed woven cane furniture from Assam is one of the main attractions at the Fair. Cane and bamboo items also include lovely room dividers and screens from Manipur, waste paper baskets and a variety of bamboo and cane baskets, fruit bowls and trays. Manipur's distinctive textiles and Nagaland's woven shopping bags and satchels compel attention. Also available at the Fair are wood artefacts, salad forks and spoons from Nagaland, Manipur's famed `root sculpture' pieces as well as delicate bamboo basketry from the North East. There are well-crafted brass icons and figures from Aligarh and prettily embellished terracotta forms and figures from Gorakhpur.

An irresistible array...

The Craft Fair ends on March 10.
