Revised train timings from today

MADURAI, AUG. 31. The Southern Railway has introduced/extended a few trains from September 1.

Though the dates for operating the new trains are yet to be finalised, the timings have been announced. The Chennai Egmore-Tenkasi (weekly) Superfast Express will leave Chennai Egmore on all Saturdays at 5 p.m. and reach Madurai at 1.05 a.m. It will leave Madurai at 1.15 a.m. and reach Tenkasi at 4.45 a.m.

In the return direction, the train will leave Tenkasi on all Sundays at 7 p.m. and reach Madurai at 10 p.m. It will leave Madurai at 10.05 p.m. and reach Chennai Egmore at 6.45 a.m. The composition will be one two-tier air-conditioned coach, one three-tier, air-conditioned coach, six sleeper-class coaches, four general second-class coaches and two general second class-cum luggage vans. It will have stoppages at Villupuram, Tiruchi, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Srivilliputtur, Rajapalayam, Sankarankoil and Kadayanalur.

The Madurai-Hazrat Nizamuddin Tamil Nadu Sampark Kranti (bi-weekly) Express, for which the dates of operation are yet to be worked out, will leave Madurai on Saturdays and Mondays at 11.45 p.m. and reach Chennai Egmore at 8.55 a.m. The train will leave Chennai Egmore at 9.10 a.m. and reach Hazrat Nizamuddin at 8.40 p.m. (on Mondays and Wednesdays.)

In the return direction, the train will leave Hazrat Nizamuddin on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.25 a.m. and reach Chennai Egmore at 6.35 p.m. the next day. It will leave Chennai Egmore at 7 p.m. and reach Madurai at 5.15 a.m.

The composition will be one first-class, air-conditioned-cum two-tier coach, one three-tier, air-conditioned coach, eight sleeper class coaches, four general second-class coaches and two general second-class-cum-luggage vans. It will have stoppages at Dindigul, Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Villupuram, Tambaram, Chennai Egmore and Chennai Beach.

Made regular

The Chennai Central-Nagercoil-Chennai Central weekend specials have been speeded up and made regular trains.

The Chennai Central-Nagercoil Express (from September 3) will leave Chennai Central on Fridays at 6.05 p.m. and reach Madurai at 5 a.m. The train will leave Madurai at 5.10 a.m. and reach Nagercoil at 10 a.m. In the return direction (from September 5), it will leave Nagercoil on Sundays at 7 p.m. and reach Madurai at 11.35 p.m. It will leave Madurai at 11.45 p.m. and reach Chennai Central at 11.45 a.m.

Trains extended

The Tuticorin-Bangalore-Tuticorin Express will be diverted through Salem, Dharmapuri and Hosur and extended up to Mysore. The Tuticorin-Mysore Express will leave Tuticorin at 3.40 p.m. and reach Madurai at 7.25 p.m. It will leave Madurai at 7.40 p.m. and reach Mysore at 10 a.m.

In the return direction (from September 2), the train will leave Mysore at 6 p.m. and reach Madurai at 8 a.m. It will leave Madurai at 8.10 a.m. and reach Tuticorin at 12.10 p.m.

The 6121/6122 Kanyakumari-Chennai Egmore-Kanyakumari Express has been renumbered (2633/2634) and made a superfast express.

The Chennai Egmore-Kanyakumari Express will leave Chennai Egmore at 5.30 p.m. and reach Madurai at 1.45 a.m. It will leave Madurai at 1.55 a.m. and reach Kanyakumari at 6.30 a.m.

In the return direction, the train will leave Kanyakumari at 5.15 p.m. and reach Madurai at 9.50 p.m. It will leave Madurai at 9.55 p.m. and reach Chennai Egmore at 6.30 a.m.

The Chennai Egmore-Kanyakumari Express will not stop at Kodaikanal Road, Kovilpatti, Kadambur, Vanchimaniyachi, Nanguneri and Aralvaimozhi. The Kanyakumari-Chennai Egmore Express will not stop at Aralvaimozhi, Nanguneri, Vanchimaniyachi, Kadambur, Kovilpatti, Tirumangalam and Kodaikanal Road.

However, the Tiruvananthapuram-Chennai Egmore-Tiruvananthapuram Ananthapuri Express trains will stop at Tirumangalam, Nanguneri and Aralvaimozhi.

Minor changes have also been made in the arrival/departure timings of some trains at Chennai Egmore, according to a railway release.
