5 Indian women cricketers missing in London

By Hasan Suroor

LONDON AUG. 20. Five members of a visiting Indian women's cricket team are reported to have disappeared, raising suspicion that it might be an attempt to stay on in Britain after the expiry of their three-week visa.

But police said they were treating it as a missing persons' case. "At this stage we believe that these women may have gone off on a pre-planned adventure — after all, they are on holiday," a police officer said.

The women, all in their 20s, were identified as Parvesh Rani, Mandeep Virk, Baljeet Kaur, Rajwant Kaur and Ekta Andotra. They were staying in two houses in Hounslow, west London, when they vanished. Reports said that while one was seen carrying luggage and getting into a car, others left their house on foot. Police said there was no evidence to suggest that they might have been kidnapped. They arrived here early this month as part of a Punjab cricket club team but had played only two matches when they disappeared.
