Observer status for India

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI Aug. 4. India has been conferred with observer status at the Council of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva.

The other countries which enjoy the same status are the U.S., Japan, Russia, Turkey and Israel. This follows a significant contribution from Indian scientists who set up two of the detectors in the Large Hadron Collider experiment and also in the construction of the Collider itself. This is a highly advanced research facility for high energy particle physics.
