MCH panel objects approval of works by Commissioner

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD July 22. The MCH Standing Committee has taken strong objection to the Commissioner's approving of works costing over Rs. 20 lakhs.

At its meeting here on Tuesday, the committee took stock of the recent approvals made by the Commissioner and felt the latter was exceeding the powers granted under the Act.

The Commissioner can execute works contract up to Rs. 20 lakhs only, while works up to Rs. 50 lakhs required the approval of the Standing Committee. The selection of the agency for execution of works also have to approved by the committee, it is said.

The committee discussed the installation of unipoles in different parts of the city and felt most of them had come up without the permission of the corporation. "We have sought information from officials,'' said the committee Chairman, Haroon Khan.

The committee further resolved to stop payment for works sanctioned during last year's budget until they were revalidated by it.
