AI is not a difficult concept for them

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore July 22. If anyone thought that students of ninth and 10th standards cannot comprehend the artificial intelligence (AI) concept, they should have been at a programme organised by The Hindu, in association with "Intel-Involved in India", here on Tuesday. During the two-hour session held at the Oxford Group of Institutions in J.P. Nagar, the students learnt that the ability of a computer to perform activities normally thought to require intelligence was termed AI. It was done using algorithms to help the computer understand the problems in the way it understood best. To make it more interesting to the students, the example of the cartoon characters, Jetsons, was pointed out. AI could be applied in home automation with robots doing most household tasks. They also learnt that career prospects in the computer field were increasing, and that about one million more professionals would be needed in the next few years. The students were given details of the websites on which they could find more information on AI and related subjects.

The Hindu-Intel workshops are to be held in New Horizon School, Indiranagar, on Wednesday, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleswaram, on Thursday, and Army Public School, Kamaraj Road, on Friday.
