Adjournment motion disallowed

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JULY 22. The Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) attempt to move an adjournment motion seeking a direction from the Centre to Karnataka to stop construction over the Krishna river was disallowed but the party leader, K. Yerran Naidu, was permitted to make his submission.

The TDP member was given an opportunity to speak by the Speaker, Manohar Joshi, even as the Congress MPs sought to raise the issue of the CBI dropping conspiracy charges against Union Ministers in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

Even as Telugu Desam MPs started moving towards the well of the House, Mr. Yerran Naidu was given permission by the Speaker. Some of the MPs even raised slogans demanding justice.

The TDP leader said the Centre should intervene and stop Karnataka from going about with the construction. Some Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh stood up in solidarity but their colleagues from Karnataka objected to it.
