Probe into some accidents still on: Nitish

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JULY 22 . The Railway Minister, Nitish Kumar, said in the Lok Sabha that all efforts were being made to prevent train accidents.

Making a suo motu statement on the recent major accidents, he said vital decisions had been taken by the Railways to increase passenger safety.

The Railways had to operate amid adverse extraneous factors. It recently held a two-day workshop here for its staff, including pointsmen, gangmen, driver, guard, stationmaster, permanent way inspector, carriage and wagon examination staff. Some of the vital decisions taken by the Ministry were based on the deliberations of the workshop and follow-up action had since been initiated.

Statutory inquiries were still on into some of the major accidents.
