Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Staff Reporter
Krishnamurthy (25) of Mugappair collected money from local residents under the pretext of running a jewellery chit scheme. However, his scheme ran into rough weather and he incurred losses and was in urgent need of Rs. 2 lakhs. A few days ago, his elder sister visited his house at Mugappair along with her daughter, Vaishnavi. Police sources said yesterday, Krishnamurthy kidnapped Vaishnavi and called back his house to inform his father that he and Vaishnavi had been kidnapped by gangsters, who were demanding a ransom of Rs. 2 lakhs. A complaint was lodged with the J.J.Nagar police station. A caller ID instrument was installed and when Krishnamurthy called again, they traced the call to a PCO at Saidapet and following investigations, he was arrested, the police said. Vaishnavi was handed over to her mother.
