Residents seek water supply through tanker lorries

By K. Lakshmi

CHENNAI JULY 3. Scarce water supply, encroachments and erratic power supply were some of the problems highlighted by the residents of West Mambalam and Kodambakkam at a public grievance meet on Monday.

Organised by the Mambalam Exnora Innovators Club, the meeting had representatives of various streets including those of Division 124, all voicing the common complaint of inadequate water supply. They appealed to the officials concerned for steps ensure additional water supply through tanker lorries.

Regarding garbage clearance in the area, some of the representatives charged that the Onyx workers cleared only the trash dumped into the bins and ignored what had spilled over.

A resident of Aziz Nagar, Kodambakkam, lamented about clogged stormwater drains which posed a health hazard to the people living in the locality and wanted immediate action to be taken to desilt the drains before the onset of monsoon.

The haphazard parking which paved way for traffic jams were also brought to the attention of the civic officials. When the issue of congestion was raised, a representative from the Parankusapuram Civic Exnora appealed to the MLA, J. Anbazhagan, for speedy construction of Rangarajapuram flyover to ease the traffic.

Another major complaint of the residents was encroachments on pavements, which forced the pedestrians to step on the carriageway on the already congested roads.

Responding to the grievances, Mr. Anbazhagan said work on the Rangarajapuram flyover, which will ease the traffic at Mambalam and Kodambakkam, would commence in January next. The other problems addressed by the representatives would be solved within 15 days, he said.
