Rain plays spoilsport

By P. Subramanyam

London July 3. India `A ' and Nottinghamshire County Cricket club were frustrated as the second days' play in the three-day game at Trent Bridge was a complete washout, without a single ball being bowled, on Thursday.

An inspection by the umpires took place at 2.00 pm and as the conditions were not conducive for play, the game for the day was called off. The tourists were looking for some improved bowling performance after the former England batsman, Usman Afzaal, who has been ignored by the national selectors, managed to score 114 not out on Wednesday.

With only a day left, it would require a declaration and probably, a forfeiture of an innings to enable to obtain a positive result in this game.

Brief scores: Nottinghamshire CC 265 for three in 80 overs (U. Afzaal (batting) 114, D.J. Bicknell 52, G.D. Clough (batting) 39).
