PARIS: A French appeals court on Wednesday ordered the release of the jailed leader of an Iranian exile group and eight others arrested two weeks ago in a broad anti-terrorism sweep, judicial officials said. The Paris court freed Maryam Rajavi, a leader of the group Mujahedeen Khalq, or People's Warriors, and eight associates, all of whom remained under investigation on terrorism-related charges. Two other jailed members of the most powerful Iranian opposition movement were released late on Tuesday. Ms. Rajavi and 150 other group members were detained in a June 17 sweep of their European headquarters, where police found $9 millions in cash. The Mujahedeen Khalq seeks to topple Iran's ultra-religious Government and has an army in neighbouring Iraq. AP
