Poll violence in Punjab

CHANDIGARH JUNE 29. Amidst reports of nearly 80 per cent voter turnout, two persons were killed and 12 injured during polling in over 12,000 village panchayats, spread over 17 districts of Punjab, today. While Channan Singh, an Akali Dal-supported candidate from Dhariwal village in Amritsar district, allegedly killed one Gurdeep Singh during a shootout in pre-poll violence, Succha Singh, supporter of an independent MLA from Batala, S.S. Chhotepur, was stabbed to death in Batala district by some persons late last night.
