Criticism of Left causes uproar at Hindi meet

PARAMARIBO (SURINAM) JUNE 7. A conflict between the rightist and leftist viewpoints caused uproar at the World Hindi Conference here and stalled its proceedings for over half an hour.

Controversy arose on the first day of the conference on Friday when a write-up of Tarun Vijay, editor of the pro-RSS weekly, Panchjanya, was circulated. It charged the Leftist journalists with creating an atmosphere of hatred within India and ignoring the fundamentals of Indian civilisation and culture.

The article said that after India's independence, the so-called progressive and Leftist journalists, beholden to foreign countries, became powerful converting ideological differences into enmity and used the pen as a weapon to curb freedom of thought.
