Super heavy Palwinder Singh Cheema asserted his class with a crushing win over Huang Chun Sheng of Chinese Taipei. In the 120-kg men's freestyle, Cheema needs yet another win in the third league round to make it to the final, at the Indira Gandhi indoor stadium. Nonetheless, Greco-Roman grappler Gurbinder Singh notched up the first berth in the final for India. The 66-kg wrestler got a walkover from Yaser Salim Abdul of Syria. The second final for India was secured by Geetika Jakhar who continued with her excellent form. She upstaged Kyrgyzstan's Rasulova Mursawva, in the women's 63-kg freestyle class. Cheema, the Commonwealth Games gold medallist, made a good comeback to the competition after a minor injury forced him out of action for a while. After a relative tough call against Mongolia's Gankhuyag Dorjpalam, Cheema returned in the evening with a vengeance. The Mongolian had surprised him with a 3-1 lead by half-time, before Cheema won three points with a flip and closed the bout 5-3. Against Huang in the second league round, Cheema gave no such room for his opponent to manoeuvre. He won his first point in the 12th second and then pinned down Huang in the 48th second. In the 74-kg freestyle class, Sujit Mann provided yet another hope for India. After being down at the start, Mann regrouped his strength and scored three points by flipping his Vietnamese opponent Pham Thanh Quyet. Once a cushion of two points was gained, Mann went for the kill and pinned Quyet on the mat. Meanwhile, the competition in the women's 67-kg class was reduced to just two players. India's Kiran Sihag and Japan's Norie Saito were the only wrestlers signing in for 67-kg. They now meet directly in the final on Sunday.
