`Jan Jagaran Yatra' arrives

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE April 17. The "Bharat Jan Jagaran Yatra", organised by the Communist Party of India in protest against the economic policies of the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre, arrived here this evening and was given a warm reception. The yatra, consisting of about 200 CPI workers led by D. Raja, Secretary, National Council of CPI, left Kanyakumari on April 8, and will reach New Delhi on May 9 along with three other yatras from other parts of the country. At a meeting held in the evening, Mr. Raja said that the yatra covered several districts in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and people had given an enthusiastic welcome to it. He said the main purpose of the yatra was to educate the people about the "disastrous" economic policies of the Union Government. Another objective was to create awareness about the danger to the nation posed by the Hindutva policy of the Sangh Parivar. In a message, the former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader, H.D. Deve Gowda, expressed supported for the yatra. The yatra will leave for Andhra Pradesh, via Bagepalli, tomorrow.
