Markets to remain closed on March 31, April 1

NEW DELHI MARCH 29 .In view of the "Bharat Bandh'' call issued by the Confederation of All-India Traders and Bharat Udyog Vyapar Mandal in protest against the proposed introduction of VAT, all markets in the Capital will remain closed on March 31 and April 1.

According to a spokesman of the Traders' Action Committee for VAT, Praveen Khandelwal, all wholesale and retail markets in Delhi would remain closed, supporting the nationwide strike.

``All major traders' organisations in the Capital, including those of the Walled City, New Delhi, Karol Bagh, South Delhi and Trans-Yamuna areas, are supporting the strike, ,'' he said here today.

Mr. Khandelwal claimed that the call for the two-day strike had evoked overwhelming support from the trading community across the country including States like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal.
