Two contract killers nabbed

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI MARCH 29 .Two alleged contract killers were arrested after they fired at a vegetable wholesaler outside his house at Jahangirpuri in North-West Delhi on Friday. Their two accomplices managed to escape.

According to the police, it all happened outside the house of Raj Kumar, a 38-year-old resident of I-Block in Jahangirpuri, around 4 a.m. Four young men approached Raj Kumar, who owns a vegetable shop at Rohini, when he was getting into his car to go to Azadpur Mandi. His brother, Om Prakash, was also with him.

The police said one of the four fired at Raj Kumar but the bullet missed him. Raj Kumar and Om Prakash then began fleeing from their car. The four gave the two a chase and one of them also tried to snatch the bag which Raj Kumar was carrying. The bag contained money for buying vegetables from Azadpur.

Hearing the gun shot, a police patrol party led by Police Post In-charge, Sub-Inspector Daya Kishan, arrived at the spot and gave the four a chase. Two of them were nabbed. They have been identified as Ram Dev (22) and Bobby (24), both residents of Jahangirpuri.

A country-made revolver, three live cartridges and a knife were recovered from their possession. They have been earlier involved in cases of robbery, attempt to murder, Arms Act reported from Jahangirpuri and Samaipur Badli police stations.

The other accused managed to escape the police net under cover of darkness.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that Bobby had been paid by former partners of Raj Kumar to eliminate him. The police said Zafar Ali and Suraj Pal -- both residents of Jahangirpuri, were partners of Raj Kumar. Owing to monetary disputes, the three fell apart in the recent past. It was decided that as part of the division of property, the vegetable shop at Rohini would be owned by Raj Kumar.

However, despite the settlement Zafar and Suraj Pal were not satisfied and wanted to take a revenge. About four days before Holi, Suraj and Zafar paid Rs. 26,000 to Bobby for eliminating Raj Kumar. The rest of the amount totalling to Rs. 1 lakh was to be paid after the job. Suraj, Zafar and Bobby began trailing Raj Kumar to study his movement. They came to know that Raj Kumar leaves early morning for the Mandi every day. On the night of March 27, Bobby, Ram Dev and their associates hid themselves near the house. When Raj Kumar and Om Prakash came out the house, they were attacked.

Apart from Ram Dev, the other associates of Bobby have been identified as Mukesh and Ram Chander. Raids were conducted at the houses of Suraj, Zafar, Mukesh and Ram Chander, all of whom were absconding.
