Among the winners are S.K. Sama, Chairman, Board of Directors, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (2001), C.P. Thakur, Minister of Development of North-Eastern Region and Small-Scale Industries (2001), and S.P. Aggarwal, Director-General of Health Services, Government of India, in the medical-cum-statesman category.
Other awardees included authors of original and outstanding works in medical and allied sciences, Dr. S. Rajasekaran, Coimbatore (2002), and the late S. Ramaswamy from Chennai who bagged the Hari Om Ashram Alembic Research award for 2001.
The Eminent Medical Teacher Award for 2001 was given to Mukkal Kesavan Lalita, Vellore, Jai Dev Wig, Chandigarh and Sudhir Kumar Bhatnagar, Lucknow.
In encouraging development of specialities in different branches of medicines section (2002), the awards went to Saroj Chooramani Goptal, Varanasi; N.A. Kshirsagar, Mumbai; N. Kochupillai, New Delhi; and Radha Rani Mittal, Patiala.
Sanjiv Malik, Hony. Secretary-General of the Indian Medical Association was selected for the prestigious B.C. Roy National Award for 2002 for his contribution to "socio-medical relief".
Dr. Malik has played a pivotal role in providing socio-medical services to the ailing for over 20 years. He has been actively involved in the planning and organisation of over 50 health camps and health "melas" all over the country.
Also the founder-chairman of the National Health Foundation a charitable body engaged in continuing medical education and public health awareness activities Dr. Malik has played an important role in the initiation of the movement against female foeticide in India.
He has organised five national workshops all over the country on the subject.
He has to his credit over 650 medical journals and publications and has presented over 85 papers.
