Draft roll for panchayats published

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry March 4. The State Election Commission has published the draft electoral roll for panchayats, for public inspection.

The State Election Commissioner, N. Rajasekhar, said in a communication that the draft was prepared on the basis of the final Assembly electoral rolls published on January 6. The last date for receipt of applications for claims and objections was March 12.

He said those whose names did not figure in the draft and those who attained 18 years of age as on January 1 this year could apply for inclusion.

Those who had objections to entries and transposition of entries could apply in prescribed forms.

The applications could be made to the commissioners of commune panchayats, who are the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), or designated officers appointed by them for each village, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the venues separately notified by them.

The last date for decisions on claims and objections by EROs was March 19 and the final roll would be published on April 10.

Mr. Rajasekhar said the administration had amended the Pondicherry Municipalities (Registration of Electors) Rules 1974 and the Pondicherry Village Panchayats (Registration of Electors) Rules 1974.
