Two bridges at Thampanoor being rebuilt

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Feb. 26. The work on rebuilding two bridges at Thampanoor as part of a project to check flooding in the city, would begin on February 28, according to a press release quoting the District Collector.

The bridge near the KTDC hotel and the one on the Power House Road are the ones being rebuilt as part of the first phase of the project.

The height of the bridges would be raised and the work would be carried out simultaneously. Once the work is completed, the flow of water through the Amayizhanjan canal would become smooth, the press release added.

Traffic diversions

Traffic will be diverted in the city from February 28 owing to the reconstruction of the bridges near Chaitram Hotel at Thampanoor and on the Power House road, the City Commissioner, Rajan Singh, has said.

Vehicles bound towards Neyyatinkara from the National Highway and MC Road should take the Public Library, Bakery, and reach Thampanoor. Vehicles from Pettah bound to Thampanoor should take the Palayam, flyover, R.R. Lamp, Public Library and Bakery route and those bound to East Fort from Pettah should take the Pattoor, Vanchiyoor, Uppilamoodu bridge, West Fort route.

Vehicles bound to Thampanoor from East Fort should go through Attakulangara bypass, Killipalam, Choorakattupalayam, and the flyover to Thampanoor. The traffic from Neyyatinkara side to East Fort should take the Killipalam bypass and Attakulangara. The vehicles from Thampanoor to Overbridge should go through Aristo Junction, Model School, Panavila, Ooottukuzhi, Housing Board Junction, and R.M.S. The traffic from Overbridge to Thampanoor would be diverted through R.M.S., Subramania Swamy Temple road, Housing Board Junction, Model School and Aristo Junction to Thampanoor.

Vehicles from Nedumangad bound to Thampanoor should take the Vazhuthacaud-Xanadu-Panavila-Aristo Junction route. The Housing Board-Model School road would be made one-way to Model School, the Panavila-Oottukuzhi road one-way to Oottukuzhi and the Choorakattupalayam-Aryasala road one-way to Aryasala.

Parking has been banned on the Killipalam-Attakulangara bypass, Subramania Swamy Temple road, the Thampanoor to Panavila stretch, Bakery Junction and the stretch from Thampanoor to Killipalam, the Commissioner, said in a release here today.
