Camps for govt. employees to open bank accounts

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI Feb. 12 . With the State Government passing an order to enable payment of monthly salary to `A' and `B' category officials through bank accounts from April, the State Bank of India (SBI) is organising camps at the government offices in the Secretariat, the Ezhilagam, the DGP's office, the PWD complex and government colleges to facilitate opening of accounts by employees at the workplace.

On Tuesday, the SBI's chief general manager, Krishnamoorthy, visited the camp at the Secretariat, the DGP's office and the Presidency College and interacted with officials in providing banking services. He wanted them to utilise the facilities like ATM, housing and personal loans.

Mr. Krishnamoorthy said off-site ATMs would be installed soon at vantage points in the office complexes and a network to cover more than 800 branches. An SBI release said more than 4,800 accounts had been opened across 112 branches in the city.
