CPI condemns BJP for 'defending' Thackeray

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI OCT. 18 . The Communist Party of India has strongly condemned the BJP for defending the "vituperative and highly provocative" speech made by Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray, against minorities.

"That is how it has been defending Narendra Modi and the killings of thousands of people of the minority community in Gujarat. The arguments put forward are an amazing piece of sophistry,'' the CPI central Secretariat said in a statement today.

The party demanded stern action against Mr. Thackeray and said the Shiv Sena was a partner in the Vajpayee Government and if the latter kept quiet, it would be regarded as an accomplice to the provocation.

The Lok Janshakti party chief, Ram Vilas Paswan, also demanded action against the Shiv Sena chief for the statement.
