Tamil Nadu has Kerala on the mat

CHENNAI OCT. 3. Karnataka skipper Deepak Chougule and Hyderabad left-hander Anoop Pai recorded centuries while Andhra's left-arm spinner G. Sankar Rao and Hyderabad off-spinner Nalin Reddy returned five-wicket hauls on the penultimate day of the three-day fourth round encounters in the Ghulam Ahmed Trophy South Zone inter-State under-19 championship, here, on Thursday.

Resuming at 344 for four at the SPIC-YMCA, Hyderabad declared its first innings at 425 for four, with overnight batsmen Anoop Pai (100, 122b, 8x4) and P.S. Niranjan (64, 105b, 2x4) taking their unbroken stand to 143.

In reply, Goa was trickily placed at 220 for six at close, with off-spinner Nalin Reddy accounting for five of them. Aditya Angle held the latter part of the Goan innings together with a disciplined, undefeated 60 (96b, 7x4).

At the IIT-Chemplast, Karnataka, resuming at 199 for four, finished its first innings at 313 with Deepak Chougule, 95 overnight, making 132. Left-arm spinner G. Sankar Rao took three wickets today to finish with five for 84. Mediumpacer Kalyanakrishnan took two.

In reply, Andhra made a strong 139 for two at close, with southpaw M. Suresh (67, 138b, 6x4) and A.S.K. Varma (54, 104b, 6x4, 3x6) adding 85 for the unfinished third wicket.

Tamil Nadu has Kerala on the mat. The host took its first innings tally to 361 for four declared and then bowled out Kerala for 145. Leg-spinner M.P. Rajesh took four wickets and mediumpacers D. Tamil Kumaran and R. Naresh two each. Kerala was 50 for two at close in its second essay.

At CPT-IP: Tamil Nadu 361 for four decl. in 98 overs (Adhithyaa Srikkanth 73, Juzer Abbas 27, K. Shri Vasudeva Das 159 not out, E. Suresh 67 not out) v Kerala 145 in 58.1 overs (Sambasiva Sharma 49, Abhishek Hegde 30, M.P. Rajesh four for 21) & 50 for two in 19 overs (Mauzzam Nathani batting 25).
