Steps to enrol children under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan

Pondicherry Oct. 2. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, said the Government had intensified steps to ensure that there was cent per cent enrolment of children under the Centrally-sponsored Sarva Siksha Abhiyan in Pondicherry.

Launching the enrolment drive on Tuesday at Vazaikulam in Cassicadai constituency, which he represents, Mr. Lakshminarayanan said a detailed plan was being worked out with the Centre.

The Secretary to Education department, M. Sathiavathi, said children between 6 and 14 years would be enrolled. Enumerators would visit every house and also assess educational status of parents. About 2,000 NSS volunteers were being requisitioned for the door-to-door survey.

The Director of Education, G Theva Needhi Dhas, referred to the conduct of two surveys in the past with an outlay of Rs. 32 lakhs.
