Pondy Cabinet reviews welfare schemes

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Sept. 30. The nearly seven-hour long cabinet meeting today reviewed the various schemes and evolved a blueprint to accord priority to welfare programmes for the weaker sections.

According to informed sources, Pondicherry would also fall in line with the rest of the country in implementing the Value Added Tax from April next year. A Bill in this regard would be tabled on the floor of the House.

With the Centre calling for a formal draft bill, the cabinet also reportedly discussed and finalised it for the Centre's approval.

The issue of increasing the quantum of rice for the BPL families was also discussed. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy.
