Describing the day as a proud one for Delhiites, Ms. Dikshit said the Metro would not only change the whole transport scenario, but also usher in a new work culture. While the Shahdara-Tis Hazari corridor would be used by over 1 lakh people every day, over 23 lakh people would benefit when phase one of the project was completed, she added.The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation managing director, E. Sreedharan, while noting that the first trial run was taking place on the auspicious ``Vishwakarma Diwas'', acknowledged the role of the Japanese-Korean consortium, which had been given the contract for supplying 60 trains (240 coaches), in advancing the delivery of the first train by four months for facilitating early trials.
