12 get life term for murder

Pondicherry Aug. 21. The Additional District Sessions Judge cum Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gokuldass, yesterday sentenced 12 persons to life imprisonment in a murder case. A woman, Mundakanni, was murdered allegedly due to previous enmity in broad daylight in a marketplace near Nellithope near here in September 2000. Twentythree persons were arrested and chargesheeted. But 11 were acquitted. The accused were charged under different sections of the IPC.

Meanwhile, the Additional Public Prosecutor, K. Palani, today said he would honour Deivasigamani (inspector) and his team comprising Angappan (sub-inspector) and Ramalingam (constable) of the Orleanpet station with cash award from the fees he would be paid by the Government for the conduct of the case.
