A silver lining

Sir, — On the one hand, we have a President who has a mindset which is refreshingly different and, on the other, there are partners in the ruling coalition who change Ministers because the existing one failed to tap the "lucrative potential" of his portfolio.

A silver lining is that while in the earlier "permit, licence and quota raj" days, this was an accepted and unquestioned practice by all the parties and the media, in the present scenario the people are mature enough to see through the game plan and take corrective action in the subsequent elections.

N. Jayaraman,
Chennai
