Sharma's wife seeks appointment with Vajpayee

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH AUG. 11. Madhu Sharma, wife of the Haryana IG (Prisons), Ravi Kant Sharma, has now sought the intervention of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, to prevent her husband "being framed" by a "powerful person".

Mr. Sharma's whereabouts are not known and he has not joined the investigations in the Indian Express journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case in which he has been declared the prime accused.

Ms. Sharma today phoned up newspaper offices saying that she had sought an appointment with Mr. Vajpayee through a functionary in the PMO to bring the "facts of the case" before him and apprise him of what she alleged the involvement of "prominent" political figures to frame her husband.

Ms. Sharma has faxed representations to the President, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India and the National Human Rights Commission seeking "justice".

A Panchkula court here had turned down the application for grant of transit bail for Mr. Sharma while rejecting his anticipatory bail plea on grounds of jurisdiction.
