BJP Parliamentary board set up

NEW DELHI AUG. 10. The former BJP presidents — Kushabhau Thakre and Jana Krishnamurthy — have not found place in the party's new-look Parliamentary Board.The nine-member board, the highest decision-making body, is headed by the party president, M. Venkaiah Naidu.

It consists of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, the Human Resource Development Minister, Murli Manohar Joshi, the Union Finance Minister Jaswant Singh, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pramod Mahajan, the Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj and the party general-secretaries, Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley. Mr. Jaitley is also the secretary of the board.

The BJP chief had been authorised by the party's national executive to constitute the Board and other party bodies, including the BJP's Central election committee and disciplinary action committee.

The central election committee of which Mr. Jaitley will be the secretary will have 17 members, including Mr. Vajpayee, Mr. Advani, Mr. Joshi and Mr. Thakre. All the five party general-secretaries will be among the members.
