Orissa declares 283 blocks drought-hit

By Our Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR Aug. 10. The Orissa Government today declared as many as 283 blocks of the State drought-hit. There are a total of 314 blocks in the State.

The remaining 31 blocks had not been declared drought-affected because more than 50 per cent of the areas in these had a guaranteed irrigation cover, official sources said.

The Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, discussed the situation with the Revenue Minister, Biswabhushan Harichandan.

A committee headed by the Agriculture Production Commissioner had given a detailed report on the drought after making field visits and taking into account the reports and suggestions from the Collectors of all the 30 districts and the State Special Relief Commissioner.
