Doctor posts to be filled up

CHENNAI July 11. After a span of more than a year, the Chennai Corporation is all set to fill up vacancies for 51 doctors in its health posts. The Corporation Commissioner, M. Kalaivanan, said the vacancies would be filled up within the next month. Permission had been obtained from the State Government and the employment exchange notified to fill up the posts, he told mediapersons at the Ripon Buildings today.

According to the data available with the Health department of the civic body, 45 doctor posts were vacant in the Family Welfare department and six other posts at the zonal level.

The vacancies had stifled the functioning of several health posts of the civic agency during the last couple of years.

Apart from doctors, there are vacancies for 46 multi-purpose health workers, 122 maternity assistants and 24 female sanitary workers. These vacancies would also be filled up in coordination with the Department of Public Health, officials said.
