Children's Park entrance gets a facelift

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI JULY 11 . A facelift has been given to the entrance of the Children's Park, Guindy, with the authorities installing a new board.

Originally the place was encroached on by a shop, which sold a variety of items including tea and snacks. It was in existence at the park entrance for more than a decade. When recently the officials attempted to remove the shop, they faced pressure from various political parties. Without succumbing to the pressure, the authorities boldly removed the shop.

Now that they have put up the board, the authorities should take efforts to allow nature lovers and serious bird watchers in the city to visit the Guindy National Park (GNP). Nature lovers say that the Forest authorities should allocate two personnel specially to take nature lovers and serious bird watchers into the GNP.

At present the GNP attracts only foreign tourists. However, Forest sources said earlier they allowed entry to the people freely, but the visitors started spoiling the environment and also misused the place, hence the restriction was brought in.

With more and more children showing keen interest after watching several channels on wildlife, the authorities should invite school children and show the `green lung' to spread awareness among them, add the nature lovers.
