Sir, Refer your Editorial `Cotton and clearance' (March 30): Cottonseed is an important agro by-product rich in proteins and oil. Seed yielding from Bt. cotton crop has not been fully investigated on the quality of oil and proteins and their suitability in animal and human nutrition. Cottonseed oil, when refined, has proved to be excellent edible oil, rich in Pufa content. It is expected that Bt. cottonseed would turn out to be an excellent source of high quality edible oil. However a systematic report on Bt. cottonseed pertaining to the quality of oil and protein has not been released so far for the benefit of cottonseed crushers and edible oil manufacturers. It is time that the Government takes up this issue in all seriousness and act in time to help the industry.
