Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Not adequate

Sir, — The Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, is justified in feeling ashamed about the Gujarat events. However, his expression of feeling made to the people at the relief camps is by no means an adequate response from the Prime Minister for the horrific tortures that innocent people of one particular community have been subjected to. Mr. Vajpayee should recommend and ensure the dismissal of the Narendra Modi Government. Also, the criminals who committed the atrocities, as well as those who connived with them, should be speedily brought to trial.

Political compulsions may prevent Mr. Vajpayee from taking such steps. If so, he should frankly admit his inability and resign. If he takes such a bold step, he would have, for one thing, proven himself to be a worthy leader of this nation.

G.S. Chandy,
Hyderabad
