Chargesheet against Rajagopal

CHENNAI FEB. 26. The city police have filed a chargesheet against the hotel chain owner, R. Rajagopal, and eight others in connection with the alleged conpspircay, abduction and murder of Santhakumar in October last.

Besides Rajagopal, the others accused are Daniel, Karmegam, Hussain, Kasi, Tamilselvan, Pattu, Sethu, Muruganandam. They have been charged under IPC sections including 302 (murder), 366 (abduction) and 120 B (conspiracy). According to the chargesheet filed before the IX metropolitan magistrate, Saidapet, Rajagopal, along with others, conspired to execute the murder of Santhakumar, husband of Jeevajothi, who lodged a complaint with the police about the abduction. The conspirators allegedly took Santhakumar, along with Jeevajothi, to Tirunelveli in the third week of October. Then the victim was separated from his wife and taken in a van to Kodaikanal allegedly by five persons, including the driver. He was beaten up and strangled with a lungi, and the body dumped in a forest at Kodaikanal.

Following investigation, the nine, including Rajagopal, surrendered in different courts at Tirunelveli and Kancheepuram. They were taken into custody. Based on their statements, the body of Santhakumar was exhumed and post-mortem was conducted.
