Two tribal leaders killed in Tripura
AGARTALA, SEPT. 23. Two leaders of a tribal wing of ruling Left
Front were killed and another abducted by insurgents of banned
National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and seven persons
were injured in an explosion in separate incidents in the State,
police said today.
The ultras raided Manu village in Dhalai district last night and
picked up one Bichitra Tripura, secretary of district committee
of Tripura Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (GMP), tribal wing of
ruling Left Front from his house and chopped him to death after
dragging him from his house.
The ultras then called Champaranjan Tripura, also a GMP member,
from his house in the same village and killed him in the same
manner. The insurgents, while fleeing, kidnapped one Birendra
Tripura, a member of the party from the same village, police
added.
In another incident, ultras hurled crude bombs at a bus carrying
the staff of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council
at Jirania in west Tripura district yesterday injuring seven
persons.
