AIADMK worker commits suicide in Madurai

MADURAI, SEPT. 23. An AIADMK party worker committed suicide following the Supreme Court's verdict against former Ms. Jayalalithaa.

According to the police, K.Paneerselvam (35), Dr. Puratchi Thalaivi Peravai deputy secretary of Solaiazhagupuram, was found hanging it his home on Saturday.

The Jaihindpuram police are investigating. Earlier, Sethuramalingam of Chinthamani Road here had immolated himself for the same reason.

Our Coimbatore Staff Reporter reports:

An AIADMK activist, Rahamatullah (26) of Ramapattinam in Pollachi Taluk, set himself ablaze today reacting to the Supreme Court order striking down Ms. Jayalalithaa's appointment as Chief Minister.

The police said Rahamatullah had attempted self- immolation in his house and was rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital. Later he was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital as he had sustained 60 per cent burns.

Our Thanjavur Staff Reporter reports:

Rajamanickam (60) of Paravakottai Kudikadu village near Mannargudi, admitted to the Medical College Hospital here with burns, on Friday succumbed to his injuries this morning.

Mr. Vaithyalingam, Minister for Rural Industries visited the hospital and placed a wreath on the body of Rajamanickam. He conveyed his condolences to Ponnammal, (80) mother of the deceased.
