Banned student outfit's role in wall writings suspected

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD, SEPT. 23. The Nizamabad police are pursuing various leads in connection with the wall writings hailing Osama bin Laden in Kamareddy town and are seriously looking into the role of a banned student's organisation on the issue.

Police sources said the fact that at least five college students were picked up in connection with the wall writings praising Laden in Islampura and Peddabazar areas of Kamareddy, has made the police to probe the role of the banned student's outfit. The police are also looking into the antecedents of the students and their affiliation, if any, with the outlawed organisation, which was banned by the Centre recently.

The police, in the meantime, despatched a special party to Hyderabad to arrest four persons, said to have been accused in the entire episode. The four persons, whose identity, is kept confidential are stated to have come to Kamareddy town, soon after the attack on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon and held discussions with some college students. Thereafter, the students along with the four persons, allegedly went on writing messages hailing Laden.

The district police, which initially treated it as a routine incident, realised the consequences of the slogans and immediately swung into action and banned five students. Subsequently, the special police party visited Hyderabad to look out for the accused. Another party also visited Zaheerabad town in Medak district.

The issue was raised in the Assembly by legislators who expressed serious concern about the development. The police are not taking any chance and have stepped up patrolling in Kamareddy town in the nights to avoid repeat of such incidents.
