Manipur students denied admission to RIMS
By Our Correspondent
IMPHAL, SEPT. 23. The authorities of the North Eastern Council
(NEC) have denied admission to 34 students from Manipur in the
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) as the Manipur
Government is unable to clear its debt. Though these students
were selected this year, there was no indication as to when they
would be admitted as the classes had started since August.
The State's coffer is empty and the Government is unable to pay
salary for months together. The NEC pays 50 per cent of the
expences of the RIMS, while the balance is shared by the North
Eastern States, except Assam.
Besides, a State Government has to pay in advance 50 per cent of
the fees at the time of admission. But it is impossible for the
Manipur Government due to prolonged financial crunch.
