Bomb hoax at South Block
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 23. The New Delhi police went into a tizzy here
tonight following a call from the Prime Minister's residence that
a bomb had been planted in the South Block area housing the
Defence Ministry and the PMO, a stone's throw from Rashtrapati
Bhavan. But no bomb was found till late tonight.
The call to the police at 9 p.m. was apparently made by one of
the Special Security Guards deployed at the Prime Minister's
residence, who said a call had been received from one Raj Kumar
claiming that a bomb had been planted and that it would explode
within five minutes. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were
pressed into service but the call turned out to be a hoax.
Police have been able to trace the telephone number from where
the call had been made through the caller identification system
installed at the Prime Minister's residence.
