Talent unmasked

ANNA NAGAR-based The Heritage has come to the heart of the city with an exclusive exhibition of terra-batik creations. "Poetry on Canvas" at the Slate Room, Jidoka Store, No 1, First Lane, Nungambakkam, phone 8223317, near Landmark, unmasks the talent of its in-house artisans with an array of masks, murals, lamp shades, centre table bases and oil paintings.

Freezing myriad moods on terracotta are the masks priced Rs. 375 onwards. In earthy hues with a dash of sheen, they are ideal to dress up walls in ethnic interiors. Angry, cheerful, curious- looking faces... there are a plethora of expressions to choose from. Some of them come in families.

The centre table bases in terracotta reflect fine workmanship. Traditional motifs in deep hues embellish these pieces which come in various shapes and sizes. The prices range from Rs. 5,000 onwards (inclusive of the custom-made glass tops).As for the oil paintings, they are inspired by tribal scenes. Bejewelled women - either solo or in groups peep out of frames in vibrant attire. There are few murals too in earthy tones.

Other attractions include wall panels with abstract figurines priced Rs. 450 onwards. While some are mounted on wood, others are set on raw silk fabric giving it a refined finish. The brass collection featured in the show is impressive, though limited. Radha-Krishna, The Buddha, unusual mirror frames and the spice- box veena do leave an indelible mark. The show which commences today will be on till August 6, 10-00 a.m. to 8-30 p.m. Part of the proceeds will be given to CanStop.
