Defence deal with Israel
By Kesava Menon
MANAMA (Bahrain) JULY 17. India and Israel yesterday signed a
defence deal worth $ 2 billion, the newspaper Haaretz reported
today.
The deal is said to include the purchase of three Phalcon early
warning aircraft, surface-to-surface missiles and air-
surveillance radar by India.
It also provides for cooperation between Israel Aircraft
Industries and the HAL. It is not clear whether Israel has
settled the matter of the Phalcon sales to India with the U.S.
administration.
Washington had persuaded Israel not to go ahead with the sale of
these aircraft to China.
